Roof Flashing
What is flashing? Roofs all have penetrations and holes for various equipment such as vents, skylights, chimneys, and other penetrations.
In order to prevent these areas from leaking, metal flashing and/or rubber membrane flashing is installed.
Flashing is usually installed where these items penetrate the roof and is also used in valleys and low points where two roof slopes join. It is also installed around roof edges (eaves and rakes).
Your flashing may not necessarily need to be replaced when your roof is replaced. However, the flashing should be periodically inspected to make sure it is doing its job and that it has not been damaged by the elements.
